JEE -Mains

JOINT ENTRANCE EXAMINATION (MAIN)

Joint Entrance Examination (Main) is an all India common engineering entrance examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), formerly conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for admission to undergraduate programmes BE, B.Tech, B.Arch at NITs, IIITs, other centrally funded technical institutions, institutions funded by several participating State Governments, and several other institutions.

Exam Name Joint Entrance Examination (Main)
Also Known As NTA JEE Main
Exam Category Undergraduate
Exam Level National
Exam Mode Online (Computer based test)
Conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA)

Major changes introduced from JEE Main 2020:

  • Numerical Value Questions introduced for Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry subjects.
  • The Total number of questions and Total marks have been revised.
  • Paper 2 for B.Arch./B.Planning has now been divided into B.Arch paper and B.Plan. paper. The B.Plan paper is now completely Computer based.

One important change from 2019 is that the JEE (Main) examination will be conducted twice before admissions in the next academic session. Candidates are not required to compulsorily take the test twice though if a candidate appears in both the tests, the better of the two scores will be considered.

The JEE (Main) is also an eligibility test for the JEE (Advanced), which the candidates can take if they are seeking admissions to the undergraduate programmes offered by the IITs.
